Exploring Zero-Emission Innovation in Rail Freight

Victa Railfreight colleagues recently visited Positive Traction at Rowsley, Peak Rail, to see the innovative Class 08e battery-powered shunt locomotive in operation.

The Class 08e is a zero-emissions shunt locomotive, converted from a traditional Class 08 diesel. This pioneering conversion offers a glimpse into the future of sustainable rail freight, combining proven engineering with modern environmental standards.

During the visit, our staff had the opportunity to drive the Class 08e, gaining first-hand experience of its capabilities and performance. This forms part of our ongoing assessment into the potential use of low-emission shunt locomotives within our UK terminal operations.

As a business committed to supporting the rail freight sector, we recognise the importance of reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in and around freight terminals. The Class 08e represents a promising solution, and we’re excited to explore how such technology could be integrated into our operations.
