Meet the Team - Matt Green
Meet Matt Green, our dedicated Projects & Support Specialist at Victa Railfreight who boasts an extensive background in the heritage railway sector, which shares a number of similar challenges to those found by Freight End Users. Matt is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Railway Operators.
Since joining Victa in early 2019, Matt has supported numerous heritage railways and freight end users, including several port operators. His projects include implementing competence management systems for safety-critical work, supporting review and assurance of level crossing safety, and conducting reviews for continuous improvement.
The latter has been greatly enhanced by the development, in response to customer feedback, of the Rail Freight Terminal Management (RFTM) compliance evaluation tools which Matt has created and now leads its rollout to our customer base.
Matt's journey in the heritage railway sector is as impressive as it is varied. Having been involved in it since the age of 10, his experience spans over 30 rail organisations, including a notable tenure as a Director of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Passionate about the heritage railway sector, Matt values working with volunteers and passing on traditional skills, emphasising the importance of these educational heritage-based charities in preserving history and enriching lives. His efforts have significantly contributed to the charitable aims of many of these organisations, including conservation, volunteering, and education.
Victa Railfreight plays a pivotal role in supporting heritage railways across the UK, offering services including safety management, training, competence management, leadership support and advice on good governance.
Matt's work ensures that the heritage railways he supports maintain the heritage feel and continue to preserve historic buildings, structures locos and rolling stock while working safely and efficiently to 21st century standards.
Meanwhile, his engagement with the Freight End User community, particularly around RFTM and Level Crossings ensure that this disparate but important group of businesses play their part in the continuous improvement that the Freight Sector as a whole aspire to.
