TED GILES

We very much regret to announce the passing unexpectedly, of Ted Giles on 18th November. Having spent much of his career in the ports industry, Ted became involved with rail freight in the 1990's when became Rail Manager at the then new container port Thamesport on the Isle of Grain in Kent. In August 2001 Ted joined Victa Railfreight supervising its terminal activities at Tilbury and it was then that he was trained as a shunting loco driver which subsequently occupied him both on a full time basis on the company’s Channel Tunnel Rail Link logistics contracts and latterly on a part time basis at Sheerness. Ted started to suffer breathing difficulties earlier this year and was receiving hospital treatment, but his death came as a shock to his many friends and colleagues. He will be much missed.

AWARDS SUCCESS

Victa Railfreight was named as runner up in the "Support Service Provider of the Year" category at the annual Railfreight Group awards ceremony in Oxford this week in recognition of the quality of service offered by the company's ground staff, who perform various operational duties for a broad customer base at various locations around the UK.

The judges cited the customer focussed approach of the staff and the ability of the Company to respond proactively and quickly to variations in customers’ traffic requirements and short notice service disruptions.

Neil Sime, Managing Director said: “This accolade is a tribute to the efforts of all staff at whatever location and in whatever role, Victa Railfreight’s success is based on a huge team effort and we can all be very proud of this award”.
